She traveled all the way
from the shores of plenty
from a rickety concoction
that struggled uphill
and sped downhill

She made a promise
that she would bring with her
something more promising
than nourishing the soul
that’s why I waited
with excitement

But once she arrived
she was too tired
to keep the promise
or so she said.

She punished me
for being expectant
too expectant
so to say,
or so she thought.

But come to think of it
is that a punishment
I think its more.

  1. I like how you arrange your words, your line breaks. I’m experimenting with that myself and my poems, planning to make a chapbook while I’m in the UK this fall. Rock on, my friend. – Bill
